Balding on front of neck under chin

I noticed the same thing on one of my girls that just hatched out some babies. She has been all alone while she was broody, so I know that no one picked on her.

Wow, I also have a Cochin that has her chin/neck area plucked. But I did notice one of my EE's pulling at her last week so I assumed it was her but not sure why she would be doing it in that area

I am having the exact same problem! One of my silkie hens has lost all the feathers on her head as well as her neck. I also have another hen who has lost all the feathers on her neck. I am wondering if anyone ever figured out why this was happening? It looks exactly like the pictures from "superchemicalgirl". Any info would be great! Thanks!

I have 2 girls that look like this--one always looks worse than the other. I've realized that they both teeter-todder on who is the lowest in the pecking order; the one with the least amount of neck feathers usually is the omega.

Why my other girls feel they need to brand them with the "scarlet letter" is beyond me lol. It's not like they are bored either because they free range all day long. Ah, chickens...who understands them?

Our Alpha hen has the same thing. Bald under her chin and down toward her breast. Just like several others birds this one has good white/pink skin with no damage. And it is our alpha girl,no question about that and no one is picking on her. I'm really curious what is happening.

This seems to be quite the mystery! I am going to take a pic tomorrow and post it - her name is Cecily and she doesn't seem to be picked on for any reason........except she needs a neck scarf! Maybe they're fashion oriented???? who knew...
