Bamboo Pirch too slippery

Really, what I'd recommend is a two by four piece of lumber placed so the wide side is available for them to sit on. I have 2 x 3s and they work ok but my climate is fairly mild. Their toes should be under their feathers as they sit, and not curled down where they might get frostbite.

I don't know what your setup is...just my advice! I was able to buy my lumber for a little over a dollar per piece.

I have bantam silkie chickens. And the bamboo is pretty thick. Looks just right.

I also have some 2x4 but its square, I figured round bamboo would be nicer.

There is a product called shark bite that you add to lacquer to give it a 'tooth'. Generally used for stamped and decorative concrete. I use it in stamped concrete shower stalls to seal the concrete. It is a dry silicon based powder. It will mix with just about anything, but lacquer is really tough, if you sand down the roosts, and add fine sand to lacquer you can paint the lacquer and sand mix and it will be like sand paper.

I have bamboo in all my coops they love it.
