I'm about to use leg bands and celluloid bandettes for the first time, to help manage my breeding program, and could use some sage advice.
Are there any major dos and don'ts I should be aware of, and what is the proper fit for the different types of leg band?
What is considered "binding", and what is "too loose"? Please refer to the illustrations below:
(skin tight)
(tight)
(snug)
(some wiggle room)
(loose)
OK, now your opinion: which of the above pictures best shows how a bandette should fit on an adult bird?
How about on a young bird?
How flexible are celluloid bandettes, do they want to spring back into a circular shape and pinch the chicken's leg (A) ? Or do they stretch around it in a non constricting manner (B) ?
(A)
(B)
Do they sort of expand as a young bird grows, and if so, what picture best shows the point when you ought to move to a larger size bandette?
For spiral bands (flexible like bandettes), and regular leg bands (fixed size), are the rules different?
Thank you legband and bandette gurus.
