Banning linebreeding in Oregon??? H$U$!!!

Buster - that is closer to the facts than most would guess...while most places have taboos against brother - sister relationships...most don't have it for cousins...dang...forgot the state...is trying to pass legislation against it. (several of the talk radio shows have been talking about it)

I know 2 cousins here in MA, that are married... I think first cousins too...

So i retract my smarty pants joke about the southern states thing...

Apology accepted. I'm sure SOME of my stereotypes of Yankees are mistaken too.

It reminds me of when my wife (who is a Yankee, btw) learned that she and I were possibly related to Daniel Boone's grandfather. She mentioned this to our son who was 16 at the time. He wanted to know if our being related made him a redneck?

i never watched that myself. Saw a lot of discussion on it from the dog breeders on the net. From what i gather what the vidoe showed was geared more towards animals rights,a nd a very baised slam against good dog breeders.

I know that any documentary can and will be a representation of the makers view and should be taken into account when viewing. However it was really interesting food for thought. The only part of the show geared towards animal rights was an allegation that one breeder of a king charles cavalier was breeding a dog with a genetic disorder. If I remember correctly it was a brain disease. The "proof" was imo in question but could have been true. But if it were true that dog sired 11 litters that would have the defect. Like I said it was food for thought.

I've been line breeding my chickens for years to get a variety suited for my climate and desire for a dual purpose (meat and eggs) chicken that I want. I weed out aggression by sending the Roosters I don't like to freezer camp. I keep the same dominant Roo for three or more generations then allow the next subservient Roo to replace him. I keep an average of 1 Roo to 10 hens to maintain my bloodline. I will bring in new pullets from time to time to incorporate traits I'm looking for, but always keep the Roos from my own egg hatching. Eventually I will get my dual purpose glossy-black winter hardy colored egg laying chicken breed----what should I name it "darkmatters"?

No matter if you are for or against linebreeding, the government has no business telling you what you can and can't do. If you don't like linebreeding, then don't do it or don't buy from someone who does. Simple as that.

If this were to become a law it is almost impossible to enforce. It said the owners had to keep a record of the parents and grandparents so ..... how hard would it be to dummy up the records and still breed however you wanted to? This bill is ridiculous
the Government has no business getting involved with the practices of breeders, just another situation where the Legislature is trying to take away our freedom.

I'm for fighting the government tooth an nail when it comes to more regulating of anything. I'm all for letting stupid people be there selves.

As for inbreeding, never a good thing. An calling it line breeding changes nothing. Everything achieved by inbreeding can be done by out crossing. It just takes a little longer an costs more. Inbreeding is used because its ether cheaper or its quicker or both.

My opinion, every time you bring a new generation of females in to breeding you should have a new male from another line. Sure it costs more an your not as likely to have litters full of grand champions but you are more likely to have litters that die of old age.

I dont show my dogs. I breed for health not looks. You cant do both. One has to take priority.
