Just look at that adorable little bearded lady!!! I simply can't handle the cuteness contained in this picture. Selah is one of my oldest bantams, and a Wheaten Ameraucana.

@pipdzipdnreadytogo , I believe I remember you asking a while ago whether anyone else gave specific breeds names. The answer is YES! In my world, Rosecomb bantams = People, Salmon Faverolles = Fat Rolls, OEGBs = Teenies, anything red, like my RIRs and Buckeye = Bloodsuckers.

AAAAH, THAT BEARD!! Oh, don't tell me she came from Eagle Nest, too! I saw them on the bantam breed list on their website and was tempted enough just from that!!

Yay! I knew I couldn't be the only one! Love it! Looks like our OEGBs have similar 'breed names', too (mine are Teeny-Tinies ).

Aha, and that explains Vampire's name, too.

Whoa just went to my first chicken show and took my boys to their new amazing home all in one day! A very chicken-themed day!! Do you all do the shows? Very fun! So many beautiful birds! My first time seeing Bantam eggs! Soooo tiny!

Haha, wow, that's a lot of roosters!! Glad you found them a good home! I love having the brooder in the house, too! It's so sad when they move out and the brooder is so empty and quiet afterward... If I had more coop space, I'd be hatching all the time to prevent that.

Roosters are a whole 'nother animal in the house, though. Last winter we had temps plunge into the negative teens (Fahrenheit) as the high for a spell and I had to bring 6 full grown roosters inside to help with swelling frostbite that they all got pretty badly. There was so. Much. CROWING! It was crazy! Even crazier was trying to get them back outside, when one of them escaped and then flew from the top of the stairs across the living room and about landed in the fireplace (thankfully unlit)!! Needless to say, I'm willing to do some crazy stuff to make sure my birdies are safe.







You're fine! The stuff about 2x4s flat side up is very overstated, and not necessarily the truth. You can see in the picture you added that your birds are covering their feet just fine on your 2x2 roosts.

Thanks so much!! I took my boys to their new home today and checked out their roost bars. I think mine will be fine for now. I can replace with 2x4s when they are older. Maybe senior bantams would like wider perches! And about crowing... wow... it seems like everyone talks about their standard cockerels crowing at 5 or 6 months. My bantams began at 10 weeks! Then at 3 months they suddenly got really really loud! So sleeping without them in the house will be a treat tonight!!

When I see a bird like Selah I just think, “Delicious!” Just so cute! Squeezable! And I call my Sebrights “vultures” (in a good way) and the duccle boys are “cowboys”. The duccle girls are “bunnies”. I think the Cochins are teletubbies.... everyone thinks my Splashes are doves! The Dutch so far are Dutchies!
