I have a question for the call duck experts. We only have one hen, I collected 9 eggs from her to put in the incubator, all but her first egg are fertile, I then collected 3 more and just stuck them in the fridge, I decided to see if she will set her own eggs since my incubator in now occupied and she has 4 eggs in there.

One - I thought calls weren't very productive, she has laid these in 3 weeks and seems to keep on laying... Is there bad for her? I have been making sure she has free access to lay pellets, plus free access to crush egg shells.

Two - How many eggs will she lay in her nest before she decides to sit on them if she is going to brood them??? At what number should I just give up on her sitting her own eggs and pull them?

Sorry for the bad typing!

I have really been missing my Mallards lately. They were the sweetest ducks. My drake would follow me around and my hen was the best setter. I miss them so much! I lost the hen when she decided to set where I couldn't get to her and the drake was killed by a hawk.

my ducks have gone broody on eight eggs to 14 eggs. What you could do is write the number of the day on the egg like 10 11 ect. If she goes brood and has a whole bunch of eggs remove the oldest ones and let her sit on the newest ones put the oldest ones in the incubator. bob
