So sorry - it is so easy to get attached to them, mine are like family.

If you think it is poison, see if you can get them some charcoal tablets. That will absorb the toxins so it can pass through their body safely. They gave it to my dog after she ate snail bait

I am so sorry!

It could be poisoning. Is there anywhere they could have gotten in to rat or mice poison? Cocci causes bloody stools but it seems like this happened suddenly and I sure you would have noticed them looking "off" prior to this if it was cocci??? I hope you find out what it might be!

Well as you all know I have lost 2 chickens in two days, yesterday I tried to reach a vet to see what they suggested for Hawks baby before he died but they don't rush to call you back. So today, a chicken vet called back he said from the sounds of it it doesn't sound like poison. He said for the two to die that fast he said it sounds like a couple of things. one WORMS. He suggested for me to contact a local vet because he was 4 hours away from me, and have them test the stool on the other chickens (local vet meaning a vet for cats and dogs). He said it sounds like they needed to be treated for worms and coccidous an internal parasite... He said any local vet can test the stool for this.... He said separate the other 5 baby chicks for a month to see if they show any signs of sickness.

So we will be worming some chickens.... I called the local vet to prepare them of what I needed, they want me to bring in about 2 tablespoons of stools to be tested. HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET THAT MUCH POOP OUT OF 5, ONE MONTH OLD BABY CHICKS in ONE DAY.. They don't even poop that much in two or three days... I told her your crazy, I can NOT get that much poop from the baby chickens. The Adults No problem but not the 1 month old chickens... LOL She said just get as much as you can in one day. So Off to be tested will go...

Your chicken appeared to have internal bleeding before she died from the appearance of her poop and what you described in the fluid coming out of her mouth when she died (brown in color). You also said she drank a ton of water. Someone mentioned to you that drinking a lot of water is a sign of exposure to rat/mice poisoning.
Most rat/mice poisoning contain warfrin. That is the same substance as coumadin; a very common blood thinner given to prevent blood clots, strokes and heart attacks in certain patients. Vit K is the antidote if your blood is too thin. Vit K is present in dark leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale.
I don't know what killed your chickens but if they were my chickens I would be suspicious they had got hold of the rat poisoning or something that ate the poison. I would probably cook them some spinach and see if I could get them to eat it (raw is just as good but you can consume more cooked thus getting more vit K.) I don't guarantee it would help but I doubt it would hurt.

These are my opinions only. So sorry you lost your mommy hen and baby. Hoping you don't loose any more.

I have the other five babies separeted in the house they aren't showing any signs of sickness yet. The vet said keep them there for at least a month. I don't see blood or any kinds of problems yet.

FYI to everyone, I talked to a second vet today, he also said that Hawk and her baby didn't die from Poison. he said it sounds more like Worms or Coccidious. So now I feel more confident that Hawk and her baby didnt die of poison, I can stop searching the yard. I am now treating them for Worms and Coccidous.. The good thing is I caught it in time before her other 5 kids got as bad as Her and the baby we lost... I have a lot of chickens so the instructions that have been giving to me are quite easy it's mainly just putting the medication in there water for 5 days. The vets said with the Bloody stool that was pretty much a dead give away. With the minimum symptoms hiding in a corner with feathers ruffled up and away from the flock is another dead give away.. They said usually they get more symptoms but in my case it didn't happen.. So I'm a little relieved that I know now what was the cause and can stop it before it hits the rest. Thank you all for your input..
