I bought some bantam white leghorn chicks last week. Not sure exactly how old they are, anywhere from a few days to a few weeks he told me. These are my first set of chicks. I woke up to find one dead this morning. I don't know what went wrong! Then all day today, I've had one chick that seems as if it's sneezing constantly. I have seen it drink and eat very little all day. I've cuddled with it to help warm her. She nearly instantly falls asleep, seems too tired to even drink! I mashed some hard boiled egg for her (advice I read on another thread) and she only pecked at that once. The other chicks are running and chirping and very bright eyed. They had a chase over a few egg crumbs. But my one little girl is so weak, I'm afraid I'll find her dead in the morning. What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to BYC. Give them some electrolyte/vitamin water such as SaveAChick, and dip the beaks in it often. Make sure their is good ventilation while keeping the temperature around 90-95 degrees for the first week or so. Make sure there are no wet shavings, because food plus water in shavings means mold, and that can cause fungal disease. Make sure that there is no dust that can cause sneezing. Some brands of pine shavings are dustier than others--coarse shavings are better for chicks. Feed can also be dusty. Infectious bronchitis, a virus that doesn't respond to antibiotics can cause sneezing, and is hard on chicks.

Thanks. Just wanted to let you know that all my chicks survived. I found a vet that treats poultry. She determined they had cocci and we switched to a medicated starter mix. They ate doing great now! Now I just need to figure out if they are pullets or cockerls.
