Hello Everyone!
This is my first post; yay! I have had my chickens for a little over a year now. I have four bantams which I got at a livestock auction, and Im pretty sure I know what breeds they are, but I have done research on my "Golden Duckwing Phoenix" Rooster and found that phoenixes, in order to grow such long tails, are not supposed to molt their tail feathers. Im not sure if it could be that he is still in blood feather, but during his last molt he shed his tail feathers! This left me confused!!! If anyone can contribute their thoughts on my little guy, Id love to read them! Thanks

Hello and welcome!

I have 3 phoenix and have learned a lot about phoenix and longtails from this website: http://onagadori.net/ .

It is my understanding the phoenix DO molt once or twice yearly. Some other long tail and experimental breeds do not. Also ongadori do not but that is not relevant because the Japanese are the only ones who have this breed.

To help the males have longer tails you have to keep them separate and feed them special foods etc.

Good luck,
