Bantam polish...humped back with tail down and wings out.

Well the miracle of a 100 dollar vet bill 😂. I would pay it again any day...they couldn't find anything wrong with her (despite her looking like whe was dying this morning). She did lay an egg...so maybe it was partly that? (She lays normally a few times a week). Anyway she is perfectly fine now 🤷

And here we are again. She was fine for about the first half hour she was home. Pecked around with the flock and held her tail up. Didn't want to eat out of my hand but are a few meal worms and went and got herself a drink. Then when my daughter took her in she spit up some meal worms and started gasping for air....and now she is tail down and hunched up again. Dr did say maybe something neurological but no advice other than crop was fine and she wasn't egg bound (not sure if she laid before or after doc saw her as I dropped her off in the am and she came home with an egg)

My guess is she is having some reproductive problems. After laying the egg, she was up and walking normally. Now she is worse. Could your daughter have squeezed her crop accidentally making her throw up? They can choke on vomit easily. I would continue to observe her, and give her another calcium tablet tonight, if she is able to take it, in case she has another egg coming along. Sometimes it takes time to pinpoint the issue.

Anything is possible. She has been carrying chickens around for 3 years and she is 14. She completely freaked out when she vomited. She will be inside again tonight and probably throughout the day tomorrow. The vet was supposed to call me (I never heard from her just from the techs as she was in surgery and we have not communicated at all...so I am going off what the techs said at drop off and pick up). I'm kind of frustrated right now.

I'm so sorry 😢, hopefully we can all help your girl 💗

I think we all have accidentally pressed on a full crop, so it isn’t a big deal. I was just suggesting a possible explanation for the vomiting. They usually do not vomit on their own unless there is a crop problem and they are tilted forward. I would check her crop early morning before she eats or drinks.

Thanks all for your help. Finally talked with the vet. She said that it was very odd. If she manually turned her head to the side peach would fall over and lay like she was dead before snapping out of it. She said she could repeat this behavior multiple times. She said it might be a few things...again encephalitis...a hard peck on the head...or a calcium deficiency (her egg she passed was thin walled). Not sure on the calcium...they get Purina layer crumbles meal worms black oiled sunflower seeds and some scratch in winter and always have oyster shell and grit available. I am going to nix the scratch grains. She said nothing really for treatment...and how she is in two weeks will probably be how she stays.🤷

That's interesting, especially the turning of the head.

If she were mine, I'd start vitamin therapy.
400IU Vitamin E and 1/4 tablet B-Complex. Give these daily along with a treat of egg to help with the uptake of E. Continue with the Calcium as well.
You can find the vitamins at Walmart, CVS, etc.

While you are at it, look inside her ears for any infection. Re-check her over for lice/mites and determine if the feathers around her eyes need a bit of a trim. You want to make sure she can see well.

Keep us posted.
