Bantam respiratory illness..help!

I am giving them .25 cc tylan 50 twice a day by injection..into breast..first dose started on Friday evening...I was going to make Wednesday the last day as that would be 5 days but I have read u can Go to 7 days and may have to do that if they r not improved...they seem more likely than they were but they still have the congestion sound especially right after the injection.

Can you weigh them, that way you give a more accurate dosage.

Injectable Tylan50 can be given orally or by injection. It also has a wide dosage range of 10-40mg/kg give 2-3times per day.
I would give them the max dosage to see if that helps, that would translate to .20ml per 1pound of weight given 3times a day.

Since they worsen right after the injections, you may want to try giving it orally. Stress and/or pain from the injection may be making the symptoms worse and you can risk injection site necrosis since you have to administer it several times day.

Orally...just straight medicine or should I add some water to it? I heard that it can burn their throat if given orally?? But that probably is why they r getting worse afterwards...from the stress....and I was worried about the necrosis....I don't want that on top of what they have already. i don't really have .any way to weigh them I just have a regular scale but they don't weigh much so mine probably wouldn't be accurate.

Yes, just straight medicine:) I think that Tylan is bitter so offer something tasty afterward, maybe a little yogurt, hard boiled egg (whatever your girls like).

Do you have a postal scale? Since these are bantams, you may be about on target with your dosage, but if you can give it 3X a day instead of 2 that would be good. I know, that it's not always possible.

Here's how to give oral medications. I do manage by myself, but....having a helper is much easier https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...er-construction-check-back-for-updates.73335/

Thank you! My husband does the morning dose and I don't have a small syringe or time to show him how tomorrow..but I will start the oral dose tomorrow evening...and see if they react better to it. I hope they do bc it makes me feel awful the way they look afterwards. And how many days is it ok to give them the tylan? Tomorrow will be the 5th day. I am not sure about three times a day....I will have to see how I can do that. O..and I don't have a postal scale.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think antibiotics treat MG (Mycoplasma gallisepticum) either. It's probably the most common respiratory infection.

The only way to know what you have for sure, is to send one in for testing :(

I kept some chicks for my aunt while she was in hospital..after i had them about a week i noticed one of MY speckled sussex bantams sneezing. I put some vet Rx on her beak and started her on a probiotic.. a couple days later..three were sneezing...the day after..all of my chickens were sneezing and sounding like they had liquid stuck in their airway when breathing....I started them on oxytetracycline when the three started sneezing..after 4 days..no improvement.. all of my chickens are infected with this now..I decided to go get some tylan 50 and get them started on it..the chicks I was holding for my aunt are not showing any signs of being sick..but the person she got them from said yesterday that she lost 8 chicks in three days!!!!...I started Friday night on the tylan 50 twice a day and they seemed to be getting worse! I figured this was because of the shock of the strong antibiotic....but they have been on the antibiotic now since Friday night and still sound like they have a lot of liquid in their airways when breathing..three of them have started closing their eyes and sitting there w their mouths open...it has now spread to my silkies and I am treating them...she picked up her chickens over the weekend so I only have my chickens again ..I do have one pen of large new Hampshire's that are still not effected as of right now. What else can I do? Why does the tylan not seem to be working? They are also starting to have a yellowish diarrhea but I thought that may be from the antibiotics? I don't want to lose my whole flock as these are my show chickens!!! What else can I do? I am still using vet Rx on their beaks to help with breathing..I don't see anything inside their mouth...anyone????? I know that I never will again offer to keep someone's chickens until they can come get them...ever...
Well, this is my two cents anyway:
Make sure they are not on cedar shavings (it hurts respiratory systems) and as @Sofia Salazar said, use oregano oil. Hope it works out.

MG and Infectious Coryza are bacterial, so they do respond better to antibiotic treatment.

I will try the oregano oil....going on my lunch to try and find some...I have been calling places all morning and can't get anyone to even look at my chickens....much less run a blood test.. ridiculous! I may need to look in to that job field....they told me that they don't see chickens pretty much bc they r easily replaced...wonder how they would feel if I told them that dogs are also easily replaced? I am just irritated...
