Hi there! Not sure if I'm posting this question under the right thread? Its not exactly a gender question... and I know the breed. I purchansed three Black Star sexlinks at TSC. They are about 6 weeks old now, and one of the chicks is SMALL. Like half the size of the other two chicks. All are healthy, chick starter, yogurt, eggyolk, acidopilius, ac vinegar, and "free range" tractor time everyday. All chicks are growing wonderfully, active, and feathering nicely. This mini chick is exactly like the others in everyway, but size. Could it be batam? One of the parents be bantam and that carried through? It doesnt seem like a "runt" to me? Just TINY compared to the others. Pics available if needed

Sometimes a chick is smaller than its mates, or starts out looking normal but grows more slowly. I had one of them. At 9 weeks she was half the size of her hatch mates. She did eventually catch up (around 7 months). She also was slow to start laying. While her sibs laid their first egg at 5 months, she was 7 1/2 months before she laid her first egg. However anyone looking at my flock for the first time now would not think she was any different than the others.
