I just lost my rooster, he was very attentive and loving to his girls however he was very big. His favourite girl had damage to her back and the smallest girl fled from his advances to avoid being crushed. I was considering getting a bantam sized rooster to replace him. However I read somewhere else that to make up for their small size, bantams can be pretty brutal in mating with bigger sized hens, damaging their combs in order to hold on ect. Does anyone have any experience with having a small rooster in a flock of regular sized hens?

My bantam rooster is sweet with his girls but I have one regular sized chicken that is missing feathers near her comb bc she pulls away during his advances and he grabs her by these feathers obviously pulling them out. He is sweet otherwise :(
