I have both and I really really love my bantams.
So much personality in a tiny package!
My little red Cochin, Cricket, is my profile pic.
They are so smart and alert!
My OEG bantam is the only one laying right now lol.
My buff Cochin, Pippin, went broody on Halloween and I gave her a standard egg from my Naked Neck pullet and she hatched one little chick 4 days ago! :jumpy

Bantams are excellent broodys and mothers.
I like their eggs too.
I have a colleague that swears bantam eggs taste better than standard.
She loves them.
If I had to choose, I’d have bantams.
Like someone else said, more chickens in the same amount of space.

So cute!!! Did you vote on the poll yet?

goodness see I hate it when I have to decide one over the other. but choosing one, its hands down bantams. I have a yard full of both. the bantams are like the tiny dogs in a big dog world. they are cute cuddly and sweet but will act accordingly to protect each other from the big ones. all my bantams are well behaved well ok for the most part. lol.

Wow! It seems we have a lot of bantam fans!

I've raised Serama, Table Tops & Silkie hatches for a friend, they go back to her at 6 - 8 wks, they are cute but I've never had any. I've kept mainly Orpingtons, love their puffy butts & docile personalities but I keep saying "someday". My problem is I can't have Roos in my residential area and hatcheries sell bantams straight run :( Someday I'll move ;)

Meyer Hatchery sells a few select breeds and colors of sexed bantams.
Mainly just certain Cochins and buff Brahmas.
The cost is $10 for pullets.
At that price the sexing better be at least 90% accurate!
I’ve heard sexed bantams can be had from My Pet Chicken also.

I actually prefer to have bantams because the feed bill is much lower and the size of the eggs are only slightly smaller compared to the feed bill being greatly smaller. The only problem with getting bantams is that the ones that are available around here are ornamental and I would rather have Leghorn or Rhode Island Red bantams. They also cost too much from the hatcheries and usually just come as Straight Run.

I have bantams and my daughter has LF. I find both are friendly. But we have only 5 birds each, living in the city and being limited in numbers. As far as bantams not being as cold hardy as LF, it depends on the breed. All the fancy feather variations can make them less cold hardy, but people in some pretty cold places do well with them too.
I like my little ones because they're easier to handle and pick up. And they're cute. They are better fliers though so you have to watch out for that.
I got mine from MyPetChicken, they offer sexed bantams. Mine ended up all pullets so it worked for me, lol.
