Hi everyone,
So I know that you shouldn't put large fowl and bantams together, but I was wondering if you had a very large coop and run, and split them in half down the middle with chicken wire, would that be ok? Would they try to fight through the fence? Thanks.

Surgeon General's Warning: I free-range completely, so my experience may be different from yours.

My bantams and large fowl have only ever fought when they were young, stupid cockerels--and the bantams quickly learned their place (except on one memorable occasion, where that big leghorn cross learned his instead.)

Mine don't really seem to notice each other, and consider each other separate species who occasionally compete for corn.

So long as the flocks have their own sleeping, laying and outdoor spaces they will settle down.
Just a note of caution.... I had that set up but for a broody hen and chicks. My leghorn decided she liked them better and found a way in with mom. Moving her back every day for a week I gave up and she is part of their group now. She is totally on the bottom of the pecking order. I figure she likes not getting pushed so much. Mom did not mind so there she stays.

I have always had both together. Mine do just fine. They all have their good days and bad buy my flock is(was just had 17 new bannies hatch .) Equal part big and small. Never herd that you cant have them together ...oops lol the big hens and roo actually help take care on the bannie babies. Also have ducks and gunieas all with them... they do fee range but still all stay pretty close.
