Bantams: Should I go Dutch, or should I go OEGB (old english game)?

I got some new OEGB's.I hatched mine from egg's Xmas last year.So far the remaining 5 are doing great. We had to cull one due to excessive bad flogging. The hen's are actualy laying a few egg's now and the roo's are being busy and I just candled egg's and Weeeeeeee babie's.I had a few OEGB last year and a couple of dutch hen's.I have found them all to be great bird's.Serama's are awesome too the first 3 chick's I ever hatched 6 years ago 2 were my pair of serama's.I am keeping my eye's open for some blue dutch bantam again. They are hard to find.

I raise pure Holland Dutch bantams, not the crossbred varieties the hatcheries sell. When you get a quality bird, their temperment is pretty calm, though the roosters can be real cocky at time when in with girls. They are LOUD crowers, more shrill I guess. The Seramas are the smallest NON recognized chicken breed, Dutch are the smallest recognized. My chicks will let me pick them right up and hold them with no problems, if you work with them at a young age, they tame nicely. Great breed for kids.

If you were looking to cross between the two, Dutch and Serama is probably the closest. I'm afraid you're going to end up with big looking Seramas though.

Dutch and OEGB are ok, we have Dutch (are selling) and had OEGB years ago. I really prefer MGB (Modern Game Bantams) for personality. They seem to really like people and are very easy to handle.

Interesting...first I've heard that they are calm.

I've always said that Moderns are the best birds for kids to start with because they are so calm as well as being small & easy to handle.

They don't flap around around and get in your face. All of ours come up to the front of the pens just so say hi, they really do seem to like humans a lot. They are one of the few breeds that you can walk in the pen and pick them up without prior handling. Training to stand at station is fun and easy to do. They really are people person birds. I wouldn't let them eat out of your hand if you don't want to get pecked occasionally, and we've had one roo that will attack your ankles if he has hens who want to set. Of all the bantams we've had I'd rank by ease of handling:

#1 MGBs by a long shot
#2 d'Uccles
#3 Rosecombs
#4 OEGB
#5 Dutch

I'm not a big fan of Bantams, but I really enjoy working with my sisters MGBs.

I am not sure if this belongs here or not, but I am unsure myself whether these are Old English or Dutch Bantams. These in photo are pullets. As they've gotten a little older the hen's tails look more fan-like vertically. And they are quite noisy lol
