How could I forget the story of how Scooter got his name! Thanks for re-posting this great story.

Barbara was getting used to the routine: wake up, peck Miss Blue Egg on the head, eat, drink, preen up bars, go to nest box. Complain that Wendy is in your nest box. Wait impatiently until Wendy comes out. Go in nest box. Sit there with a smile on your face. Sing egg song. Lay egg. Leave box and have refreshments.
Complain bitterly that the Food People have not yet opened the door. Complain that the Food People opened the door late. Complain that Food People did not bring treats.
Fly out the coop door and fly/walk to the garden mulching area. Spread mulch and leaves around, make a big mess. Hang out with girlfriends. Complain that there arenâTMt many bugs and worms, but keep hunting. Range farther and farther until you get up by the road sign that says "Chickie Girls Fresh Eggs."
Ignore Food People hollering at you to get away from the road. Ignore Food People until they go into the Food Palace and come out with treats, which is what you were hunting for in the first place.
Go off with Leroy for a private moment. Make Leroy find treats for you in exchange for your cooperation. Give other roosters the Stink Eye. Go visit Banty Girls. Help yourself to snack in Banty Girls coop.
Check out Sussex Babies in garage coop. Think they look funny with spots instead of stripes. Their feathers stick out at odd angles and they have feet as big as WalterâTMs.
Wander around until it starts getting dark out. Go to coop for refreshments. Climb on perch while you can still see to get the best place. Arrange feathers in pleasing pattern. Locate Leroy. Keep your eye on him. Tuck head under wing. Sleep.
Repeat.

My friend has a BR that is sooooo fat. We call her bridget. Now one of my BRs , Gloria, is fillin out. Lol fatties.

I came home from the hospital after major surgery and was totally shocked to find out about the Chickendad's tragedy! I am so sorry for their loss and am planning to name my BR after Barbara, once I figure out which chick is the BR. Barbara and friends will be greatly missed!!!!
I have a Barbarella, Queen of the Coop, and she definitely has attitude. DH has even commented on it, and that was before he knew anything about Barbar.

I just found the Barbara thread and started reading. I read many many pages and decided to peek at the end.
I'm so sorry to hear about the horrible dog.
I'm a brand new chicken-owner. I have a BR named Baby. She is the most beautiful thing ever. I wanted her to be my best friend and sit on my lap and let me snuggle her. But she's not that chicken. I have that chicken, but it's not the Barred Rock. I've been looking at her differently after reading about Barbara today. Baby is quirky. She's full of herself. She's got fun chicken personality.
I wanted to tell you that, because of your Barbara I'm going to appreciate Baby more. I was always going to love her and spoil her and all, but now I am going to really try to appreciate all my chickens' unique personalities.

i was reminded today by my Barbara2, they are an independent breed- i am constantly having to pluck her from high places! and her best friend is a silkie who is trying to follow everything she does! Barbara won't be forgotten here!
Chicken dads, I am planning on making Barb a tee shirt. Using the picture of her on the fence and quoting her above the pic. Is that alright with you? I can make you two a copy if you wish
It is so sad to lose a chicken friend...that many would be even worse...
It's nice to have the people here to comfort you...I know in my experience, the people on the "outside" don't get it.
It's rare that we come face to face with another friend of those with feathers.
Barbara and her friends got what everyone wants though (and deserves)...to be remembered. <3
