Bare butt

Lice is fairly common and easier to fight than mites. Use the sevin dust since it will kill the lice on contact. Then in exactly 10 days, dust them again to get any lice eggs hatching. 10 days later, look at the hens, and you may need to dust a third time. You will also need to empty out your coop and nests, and remove the litter. Get some Permectrin II at Tractor Supply and spray roosts, walls, nests, and floor before adding clean pine shavings or bedding.

Thank you! I am getting the liquid at tsc but i cant empty the coop till Saturday by the time i get home from work its almost dark and super cold here.il do it Saturday morning. I change nesting straw every week too , and scoop the poop and pee out of the coop daily and nesting boxes too daily.

I have sand and PDZ in the coop itself. Nesting boxes have straw. So i empty all 60 lbs of sand and PDZ out? Just want to make sure i do it right. Spray walls floor ceiling roosts with spray. And i have pure neem oil I'm going to rub down roosts with that too.
Do i need to get rid of all dirt in pen area? Or can i just treat it? Their outside are is grass/dirt/snow right now and enclosed pen area is dirt, sand, wood ash .

Good question on the emptying of sand and PDZ for lice treatment, but unfortunately, I don't know the answer. I'm wondering if just spraying it well or applying sevin dust to it would be good enough. Maybe others will chime in with their experience.

I use injectable ivermectin for mites etc. 5 drops orally for large breed and 3 drops orally for bantams. when the bottoms are bare, I use some polysporin to prevent any problems from rash or scratching. watch out for picking from other birds.

or applying sevin dust
one bee who comes in contact with Sevin will kill an entire hive. the stuff should be banned. This is why I use the ivermectin. and food grade diatomaceous earth (ebay) in the litter and nests. they should not breath it in because it can or will irritate their lungs so be careful applying it to the coop. wait until they are not at home.

also, cover perches with boiled linseed oil or polyurethane- oil based.

I could shovel most of it out . Tonight i had to do some minor repairs on inside of coop so all hens got butt dusted with the sevin since it was dark out, i dusted dirt in pen area too and did roosts as well as my neem oil isnot liquid yet( it pastes up when cool ) so by tomorrow it will be liquid again. Saturday we go get the permethrin liquid and spray the whole coop Saturday morning
