Bare spots on rooster neck

We have a Production Red rooster, one year old, he has lost feathers on the front of his neck. Skin is red and irritated looking. Any suggestions as to what or why?

Some things to consider would be molting, mites, or feather picking by one of his friends. I would catch him on the roost and look over his vent, and neck areas for any mites or lice. The red mite only comes out at night, so a flashlight might be necessary. If it is feather picking, a little more protein, more room, or some fun things to ease boredom might help.
