what can I treat chicken mites with? or it may be scabbies

It depends on what type of mites you are dealing with. Regular body mites respond well to a pyrethrin based poultry dust. Mites like depluming mites you need to use something like Ivomec.

A bare red bottom can also be from feather picking.

I had a feather picker in my group. I even put a camera in the coop to see if I could catch the culprit. I tried every treatment thinking it was mites etc. . It wasn't until my
"Sunshine" died that I realized it was she who picked feathers.....my sweet quiet Sunshine. Even the camera failed to pick up on her technique!
