barefoot in the coop

its not a wise idea to run around after the chickens in the coop bare foot..is it?

I wouldn't. One problem is that you could track all kinds of stuff back into your house. I have special shoes to wear in the pens that I leave outside the back door. When I go back out there I slip those back on. They are cheap shoes that I don't mind getting dirty and that I can wash off with the water hose when needed.

I had a conversation with my father-in-law the other day about the gross feeling of stepping in chicken poo. He used to run around barefoot in his mother's pens. I wouldn't recommend it.

It might get kinda icky, but as long as you wash your feet afterwards, you'll be ok.

Oh, don't do it if you have any open sores on your feet.

*hand slowly creeps up* I have been barefoot in the coop a few times, but only after the shavings have been just changed.

lol they see "Kennedy the little blonde kid that feed us" lol idk. they dont come running up to see me. the only one that does that is the cochin. lol

That's one reason we wear shoes. Our Australorps must think our toes are worms or something because if we walk in with flip flops on they want to try to eat our toes!
