You can get hookworm from walking through areas contaminated with fecal matter. The larva enter through your feet :::shudder:::

Here we have "chicken shoes" specifically for the coop. They are knock-off crocs and they stay on the back porch.

As a kid, I was always barefoot. Mom would always get on to me about running down the sidewalk to my grandparents' house. In the winter. In Pittsburgh. LOL

I do make my kids wear shoes here though. Though not because of the chance of hookworm, but because we have fire ants.

I go barefoot ALOT. I step in chicken poo ALOT.
I always think twice when Im about to go in the coop but usually do it anyways cause Im already all the way out there.

I tip toe around the poo though..
