Barley isn't sprouting?

Doesn't that make them dry out?

The seller got back to me btw and told me that they are untreated and unpearled. They've never (to their best knowledge) sold them as sprouting grains though, they usually just sell them as direct feed. So they have no information on sprouting them.
I’m not sure how much they would dry out. I’ve just been reading about sprouting and haven’t done a test batch yet, but most often people are using a mesh lid. perhaps someone who uses one will chime in

when I sprout seed I put them in a jar with a mesh top and rinse them every day at least once. You really don't want to let them dry out!
Unless the grain got hot in storage, I don't see why it would not spout.
You may find answers with brewing folks. while malt is easy to get premade these days, the hardcore folks might still do their own: Sprout barley, then roast it.
My uncle used to do that for his distillery. They have a cellar room just for that purpose!
