So my barn cat Darky was found dead this morning on the porch. Looks like he just fell asleep. The only wierd thing is he had blood coming from his mouth? I don't know why? I'm almost positive he had round worms. I had seen every so often some vomit with worms in it that had a pink tinge to it. Haven't seen any of that though in like 2 months. No wormy poo that I'd seen. So I don't htink he could have had worms that bad? Hadnt gotten around to de worming everyone yet. Could that be how he died? He was in great shape otherwise. Nice coat, good weight, had his shots and was neutered in nov 2010. Any ideas?

A bad enough case of parasites to cause death will first leave the animal malnourished and starved. It will look like they haven't eaten well in months. If they don't look that bad they probably didn't die from parasites. Blood from the nose is a sign of internal damage. It could have been something natural like a blood clot in the brain or they could have been hit by a car and just don't have any external signs of it. We've had a few get hit in the head by cars while sitting on the white line waiting to cross. Sometimes they die that way with no sign of injury. Sometimes they just have a small scrape or some blood on their face.

I agree.

Since he looked fine, I highly doubt it was caused my worms.

Sorry for your loss.

Definitely not worms. I would suspect injury and he managed to make it back home.

Sorry for you about your kitty.

I was just feeling all guilty like maybe he died because I've slacked on worming. He was a big cat too. Poor guy has had horrible luck. Summer of 2009 he was gone for a week or so and came back with his face scuffed up and his front leg just dangling. Got that all better. Then this last summer he was gone for another week or 2...heard the dog whining and looking down the driveway went to check it out he was laying in the driveway crying. Picked him up and once again his face was scuffed up and he had a gaping hole in his throat. Couple weeks antibiotics and kennel time and he was healed. november 2010 got him and all the older males here neutered and vaccinated. Since then he has been ok. Except for being a jerk to the other cats (which is normal) but I mean I remember seeing him earlier this week and he was fine. I just feel bad cuz I haven't spent alot of time with him lately and now he died. Poor guy.

So sorry! So sad!

I found one of our cats dead last night, she had no visible injuries other than a small amount of blood around the mouth. She had been hit by a car. I felt really bad, b/c I had been planning to make her stay inside since we had missed having her spayed in time and she was pregnant.
