Barncat help???

I have 12 barn cats. They are the best. Nothing like doing chores in the winter and having a cat in your coat. If you get a long haired one brush them once or twice a week. They love the one on one. Call your local shelter and ask if they do a spay/neuter discount for barn cats. Ours does.

gender of cat not important(either one, though ,should be fixed)and mine have NO interest in chickens.I do not let chicks run loose until at least 1/2 grown(not banties tho?) and tell your neighbor to spay her cat.(nicely though!) we have a program in ohio that adopts out neutered adult feral cats for barn living and they even do the vacc./etc upkeep as long as you agree to feed/water /watch out for them. have had longhaired cats in barn and wasn't a problem as long as I brushed ocassionally.(not good idea when you're allergic!) THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO NEUTER and most vets will do this when kitten is 2 lbs/3 months old whichever comes first! I would keep them enclosed ,if they're going to be acclimated to barn, in a large kennel until they're used to being fed there. you didn't say how old but I assume very young and that can be a problem. I know you would love a kitten but consider an already neutered adult cat for barn.

Thanks everyone for all of your opinions! It really helps. I'm definetely going to get the cats spayed or neutered. I was thinking about going to our local animal shelter and getting two adult cats.
