Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Ok so now my question is this, and if has been answered in the past I apologize. How do I sex barnevelder chicks? Can they be sexed at one day old? any help would be appreciated ^^

I got some pictures of my 6 blue barnies today.

Blue pullet - while this picture washes out her blue coloring, it shows her lacing well. She is the larger of my 2 blue pullets. I like her shape.

My largest cockerel. He was getting ready to crow.

These 2 boys are always together.

This is my smaller pullet. I hope she fills in more through the chest.

Black pullet from a blue mating. She has pretty nice lacing.

Same black pullet as above.

They look decent I miss the brilliant red in the hackles and saddles on the males.

Tip toeing in the gravel

I like the width on this gal

This gal has my favorite tail and nice leg color.

He wasn't to thrilled with his close up, but I wanted a good shot of that comb.

They are just hanging out waiting for the grass to grow back in.

But, I believe Barnevelders and blue barnevelders should have the darker hackles that match the saddle color. The red color should be a rich red/bay color without brassyness. The hackle should be darker even in the blue barnies. Trisha

Looks like Blue roo over Std hens so should produce BBS.

I think it would be beneficial for us to infuse the imported blood into our birds, No?
HI, have noticed that you also list Beilfelders, Enjoyed the pictures, any of adult birds ??? Thanks everyone for posting the lovely pics, Barny's are just awesomely beautiful birds.!

My TLS (Trisha) girls, these are the two I kept. I really like them. MAN it is HARD to get good pics, these just don't do them justice!

Very pretty ladies Rachael:) I have to admit that when I see nice birds from the hatching eggs I've sold....I want them back, LOL. It really hits me that I wish I could hatch every single egg and raise out every single chick all for my own, LOL. But that would be a bit selfish

I keep reminding myself that more and more people are raising these beautiful birds. I think it's wonderful that more people are breeding or even just keeping Barnevelders in their flock. They were so hard to find just a few years ago.

I probably sold "THE ONE" or even several of them this year as hatching eggs with the orders I've sent out so far. You know..."the one" out of all the chicks that is perfect or rather exactly what I'm looking for in this year's offspring. This time of year I start feeling like some of the oldtimers did...not wanting to let chicks or eggs go because of the potential for "the one" inside those shells or little fluffy butts. LOL, BUT I just can't hatch every egg

As it is my bator is full and soon my brooders will be too. Then, my hens will also go broody (some are already growling, but not serious yet) and I will be overrun with young stock. Then the selection for next years breeders starts all over again.

PS. Happy Chooks....I'd be happy to take back that first blue pullet too

I hope you have a nice hatch of pure barnies to go with your blues too

Nope, she's staying. I only have 2 girls, but it's a starting point.

I'd love input on the cockerels. They will be 5 months old on 4/8 - so I realize they are still too young to make any decisions.

I hope to have a great hatch of pure barnies to have another pure cockerel (and more pullets) to replace the cockerels I lost. So far, so good - with all eggs developing.
