Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Well, the sun came out so I thought I would post some pictures of my 2014 breeding flock of Silver Barnevelder Bantams. These are my 4th generation birds and are busily laying the fifth generation! This year the lacing and Barnevelder type have really improved over last year. I'm looking forward to seeing what hatches out this year!
Enjoy - Al

Oh my word, they're gorgeous! I've been lurking and waiting to see if anyone would post any silver barnevelder pics. They're my absolute favorite and can't wait to have some one day. Especially the bantams. I didn't think anyone else had these guys in the states beside Greenfire? Good luck with them this year!

Very nice work with those bantams. The hens just need to get shorter and get rising backs on them to start fitting into the Barnevelder shape. And a deeper breast. You got the brown eliminated good job, roosters look clean. Did you use a rock or wyandotte to make them? My guess is rock?

Yes, I used silver penciled rocks. I would agree, some of the young hens in the pictures are a little long and lean. Other hens in the group are a little closer to form. I will be sure to consider this in my selection process. Cheers, - Al

well done Al.
Cleanliness of the silver is impressive.
Quick question if you don't mind, are all the males now consistently looking like the 3 above? Do you see any that have darker hackles and corresponding saddles?

This was the first year I didn't see any 'red patches' bleeding though. Some of the roos still had a straw coloration on the hackles, but several keepers were snowy white.

Is anyone working on Jubilee Barnevelder?
Jubilee is not a color, well I guess people now refer to it as a color, but the mille fleur or I should probably say speckled orpington was named jubilee, to mark the diamond jubilee of queen victoria in England.
It would be nice if all colors can be called what they actually are, less confusion!
Not sure if anyone is working on that color in Barnevelders (I hope not!!), but for sure there are two varieties being worked on that can use the attention of more Barnevelder fanciers and the original color also off course. IMO a real Barnevelder is always double laced, whether it be gold, silver, either black or blue laced, as long the pattern is correct and with clean even color.

The poultry geneticist Arend Lourens Hagedoorn has created them in the 1930's. Animal breeding, 1939

There is also a picture of a tollbunt Barnevelder hen published in "The Barnevelder, Powell-Owen, 1932.
