Rachael, I doubt she's mixed with Barred rock. The lacing will improve a bit as she get's her adult feathers, but probably the pattern will still be "messy". It could be caused by several things: She may be lacking Pg (pattern gene for lacing) or Ml for melanizers. She could also have a copy of e+ (wild type or welsummer like) some how. I also have had a few pullet chicks marked very similar to yours from my "blue" project I suspect those chicks had single copies of Columbian which messed up their lacing.

Sorry I didn't get to respond to your question sooner... a T-storm knocked out our internet:( Can you believe we had a tornado in N. California??? It was just an "little" F1 that wiped out a few almond orchards and a couple of outbuildings. I believe there were 3 tornadoes, but only one really touched down. They wasn't close to me, but it was very close to my parents and sister.

Trisha,
Thanks! So sorry to hear about the tornados, wow the weather is odd this year.

Do you know if it is the males or the females that get their tail feathers first? The two with "V"s have tail feathers that are 1/4 an inch long and the one with out has some that are almost not even noticeable. I am hoping the two with Vs are females, because at least I can keep them for eating eggs, I don't want to cull them, they both have names

Ditto that! No tornadoes down here, but most of my fruit trees have no fruit.

Glad everyone is okay Trisha!

Females get the tail feathers first. Some of my cockerals are just NOW getting tails at 11 weeks.

I HOPE so

On another note, my 4th and final batch (well really my 3rd, but it was staggered) is due yesterday/today. Checked them before bed and not so much as a "chrip", figured I killed them when the other batch went into lockdown. Woke up this morning to two that had fully hatched. Neither of which seems to have the V

Can't wait to see them when I get home from work, how do you speed up time????
