Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

A few photos of my Barnies

This is this years only pullet to hatch from this years eggs from Johan. She is going to be 5 mos. old.

This is Stephanie and Ugz 1st daughter. She started to lay and now I haven't gotten an egg from either her or her mother in 2 weeks.

This is their 2nd daughter I hatched out from this year. She will be 4 months old.

and this years "little" surprise from Stephanie and Ugz, is a mini Barnie. Here she is with her sister, the pullet in the photo above. She just hasn't gotten any bigger, period. She is going to be 4 months old.

Ugz in molt...he looks pathetic. His sickle feathers are gone and he hackles are looking sad. Poor Dude!

Next time I will try to get better photos of the girls and their lacing, it is really hard to get it to show up on a very gray drizzly day.

Beautiful Kim! I just love Stephanie's body type.

And might I say, my girls are more red than Stephanie, but STILL not laying!

They are checking out the nesting boxes - but that's as far as it goes.

Thanks Kelly! I love them to pieces!

Look at how small and slightly red Steph's 1st dtrs. comb is and she started laying then stopped. I have a couple of her eggs in the bator even though they are slightly smaller than Steph's. Funny that she didn't start out with the small pullet sized eggs.

So what do you make of the little miniature? Do you think that is the dwarfing gene?

I wonder if your girls were getting ready and then all of a sudden the day light hours changed and now their systems are kinda whack for a while.

Yah....nothing wrong with the little bugger....she is just TINY. Her and her hatch mates were all the same size at one time, for a very short time.

Asked if this has ever happened before and got the same answer that I got when I asked the other question.....but hey, such is life, right? This little girl is a sweetie, at first I thought it may be failure to survive, but she is not failing in anyway. I had a dwarf Delaware that did not thrive and it was very sad, it's so hard not to get attached.

Hi guys,
I'm a sporatic poster, but just got an itch to hatch, and in my grab bag I got 5 Barnie eggs! I'm very excited, and they are on day 4 today!...
the shipping was hard on the eggs, some broke, but i'm hopeful at least a few will hatch, and of those, that I get pullets!!!
so, I'll follow along and appreciate any prayers for barnie babies!
(my grab bag was a big one, I bought 2 actually, so thirty plus eggs, and all but 26 broke... of those I have Faverolles, Cochins, Seramas, Welsummers, BCM, the Barnies, Americana, Dorking, and one other I can't seem to remember this very moment... anyway... it should be a busy weekend on the 14th/15th!!)

I like the tail on Stephanie and Ugz 1st daughter. She's really pretty:) I also had one really small chick so far out of the 100's hatched this year. She finally grew to be about 1/2 normal size and I sold her as a pet. Maybe genetic throwback, maybe just a random oops???

I'm finally thining down my flock to a number that I can over winter. I have 36 and still need to downsize to at least 30.

Here's some updated pics I took today from my Blue project

My best blue pullet

2nd best pullet, not as clean double lacing but an improvement over the F1 generation in hackle color and conformation.

Blue cockerel. He's a tank. I couldn't get a good front shot of him, but he is very wide. Forgive his tail please, I had a very naughty pullet that liked to pluck tails...she's gone now, but most of my chickens are having to growing back at least a few tail feathers and in some cases lots of tail feathers. Notice the cockerel standing behind the blue cockerel who's missing all of his tail feathers.

A pic of my coop that we added onto, so I can split up the flock. We still need to work on pop doors and some nest boxes for the new side.
