I bought this young lady from Rural King as a Barnevelder. Just wanted to get opinions on if this is right.
Definitely a Gold-laced Wyandotted, not a Barnevelder. Barnies will have single combs, rather than the rose-comb she's sporting.
I had Barnevelders years ago. They are stunningly, beautiful birds, but I found mine to be absolutely, horrible layers. Like with thirty hens I'd go weeks with no eggs and would be excited to find one or two in the nest box. They were very seasonal. Their egg color also wasn't dark. This was before hatcheries got a hold of them, and were directly related to the imports from Canada. I can't remember the gentleman's name...anyway, I suspect they were a touch inbred, as the chicks took longer to mature and the hens laid so poorly.
