I don't know how it happened and worse I don't know which one is doing it - yet. In fact, I've gotten four eggs that I am REALLY wanting to know who laid them. They are almost twice the size of most of my Welsummer eggs. Almost the size of our duck eggs and they are BEE-U-TEE-FULL! Very dark terra cotta brown, no speckles or blotches.

I am definitely gonna find out who's laying this egg and breed her regardless of whether or not she has faults or DQ's. None of my other eggs have ever come close to looking like this one in color or size.

Now, where did I put that food coloring? It's time to take a trip out to the coop after all the ladies are settled in for the night.

God Bless,

No, I haven't up to now. I've gotten a couple of requests though because Ameraucanas can't be visually sexed and I don't vent check them for risk of injury.

However, I am going to do some checking around. I think I know of some who do and I'll see what efforts and risk are involved. As I see it now, one major problem with shipping a bird that older is water. The only way I could see it being done is Overnight Express or something and I imagine it would be pretty costly. Also, stress is much more a factor for older birds than it is chicks. Chicks are much more able to handle stress than older birds.

Check back with me in a few months and I'll know by then if I decide to.

God Bless,
