Ok... my husband brought home a new feeder that was mysteriously cheeping! In it were two week old chicks that the feedstore called Barnabarders. Now... they look like Ameraucanas... with speckling.

Any ideas???

Ok... Barnvelders!

They are a pretty dutch chicken that lays dark brown eggs.

I've got 6 hens and 1 Barnevelder rooster. They are frinedly and lay really nice dark eggs, not as dark as Marans but I think the double and triple lacing makes them much prettier especially in the sun.

Oh wow... now I want a Silver Barvelder! These are fine looking chickens. How cool is that?

I just love my husband. We have 50 chickens and he still brings me home two more just because it will make me happy. What a guy!

I highly doubt a feed store would have Barnvelders as they are very rare in this country. If it looks like a EE with speckling I bet it is a speckled sussex. Thay look alot like barnvelders as well as welsumer and partridge rocks. These all look pruty close alike as chicks. All have theat chipmunk pattern.

These were a special order from Ideal. Apparently, the lady who ordered them didn't come and pick them up. They look exactly like the chick pictures on the feather page.
