Barnyards test egg thread.....

Have been keeping up on this post, and the hatches. You asked if there was anything you could do about the super hard shells. I read somewhere a few days ago (can't remember where, but they seemed to think they knew about hatching) that you should stop the oyster shells when you are saving eggs to hatch, so the shells won't be so hard. Other times, the oyster shell is good, and strong shells are good, so eggs don't break in the nests, etc, but that the thinner shells are best if you are wanting to hatch the eggs. Just thought I would throw this in for what it is worth. Good Luck to everyone with the hatches.

Thanks Judy. At this time I am not offering my girls oyster shell. The cochin eggs are the only one's that I have noticed being super hard like that, and they have never had oyster shell

Maybe yours are just particularly well cared for, or maybe cochin normally have harder shells.??

Barnyard, I am sorry on that first report, I must have gotten one of you eggies mixed up with another.

Anyhow there were FOUR little ones that developed, I wasnt able to help the last one in time, either, he died not being able to pip either. So they were definitely fertile, it might just have been my bator or my humidity reading off or something.

The weak one passed, but the first one, he is strong and a cutie!

I think its a blue as well! He is an adventurer too, the bravest of all the ones I hatched and he is the youngest!

My very pretty lovely single blue cochin....

So many things can go wrong during incubation. I wouldn't beat myself up to bad about it. You did an awesome job!!
