Barred Crested Easter Eggers

I thought 4 out of 7 was a good hatch for eggs that had to survive shipping. That's better then 50 percent. They eggs were wrapped very well and arrived in great condition.
I still have 3 healthy happy chicks. Out of the 8 eggs I ordered from another place, only one developed and it died right before hatching.
Its my old rooster that is gone. Killing a chick was the last straw. He was living on borrowed time after attacking my mother and attacking one of his hens.
BTW are these chicks sex linked? Or could the grey stripped one, as well as the two white ones all be hens?

yes that was not a bad hatch....just wished you had more live chicks still.

BTW anyone thinking of getting eggs I maybe be breaking up the pens soon....not 100% sure I will have this pen when I get done moving everyone. I need the pen to make exchequer leghorn......I can make blue ones too hehe! I have some about 3-5 months old but first ones to breed are the crosses making these chicks! need some new blood in the exchequer to increase heartiness! and bigger eggs and more often doesn't hurt. :)

Here are some new photos of my birds. They are now 16 weeks old. Oreo, the black barred one is starting to grow wattles and her comb is starting to grow and redden up just a bit! Probably eggs in October! Yea!

The roo is now crowing and chasing the ladies already! I even saw him "try" on one young pullet! hahaha! No luck yet! The one thing I don't like about his crowing is that it really does sound like a coyote when they are chasing prey! My heart always drops when I hear him when he is up in the woods! It's a weird sound.....hope it changes as he grows. Roo Guy and Oreo had the Crested Cream Legbar father and different leghorns as mothers. They both have small crests.

The little white pullet, Annie, is so sweet. She comes right to you! She looks like she has a while before she will lay.....must be her Ameraucana background! I heard they are slower to mature.

Can't wait until they lay.....all I have right now are green egg layers. My white egg layers are molting and I only have one brown egg layer laying right now! All my Naked necks, my Isbar and EEs lay different shades of green. (one EE does lay a seafoam/ blueish egg) And, I lost 8 hens/pullets this past two months! 5 to a bear in one night, 1 to a hawk, 1 with an impacted crop (I was out of town and couldn't help her), and one just died on the nest! So, looking forward to these juveniles to start laying. Also just got 13 new babies....(hatches and ordered). 5 of the 7 I hatched are males of course, so have to find homes for them!

my first crosses were with an Easter Egger roo and they laying at 20-22 weeks I think.

thanks for the update. I have loads of the barred crested pullets growing out...might sell a few. :)

Got my eggs to day! They all arrived save and sound. The wrapping of the eggs was fantastic with the use of the cohesive bubble wrap. Nothing could move in that stuff! Got many extra. Excited to see the babies hatch and then enjoy those extra large eggs to eat. Good communications and fast shipping. Would buy again for sure!

Woo Hoo! Got my first egg today from my Super Blue Egg layer! Oreo is 20 1/2 weeks old and laid this cute little pullet egg!

Oreo a few weeks ago before she got all red faced.

The little blue one at the bottom! So excited!

WOW that is a pretty BLUE too! Congrats! ...... hum I have one.... she is not laying yet. How did that happen yours laid before mine.......

Not sure, but her brother matured way early! He started "getting" everyone he could every second of the day! My husband said he had to go when he started "getting" the ducks! I did rehome him but not until I had 30 fertile eggs from him from 10 different hens! (Not sure if they will make it all the way since he was only 19 weeks old) but as of now, they are all growing in the bator! The hens are 10 different breeds, so it will be interesting to see what I get! My other SBEL is still small and pink faced. She is the one that had the Ameraucana in her.
