Barred Leghorn *pic*

They are in the american bantam standard, you can get a new 2007 edition for about $30 on their site.
I saw the barred leghorns listed with all the production type breeds in their catalog this spring, maybe they stopped selling them.

Barred leghorn bantams (SC) are accepted by both APA and ABA. Large fowl are not yet accepted in the US though they are in Europe. I have shown them several times. The good barring is difficult to combine with the desired feather quality (especially width of feather), so the point of departure has to be a cock bird with superior barring all the way down and a black hen that has no brown in her background (difficult if almost impossible to find, alas). From there on, a very selective line breeding should be practiced. In order to have some genetic spread, it is best to start with 3 totally unrelated pairs...
