barred rock behaviors

They are wonderful, and I have found my 7 hens to be gentle. My White Rocks are evil, though. Anyway, here is a picture of Mama on her babies.

Just hatched them out this weekend!

i have one ( was supposed to be an easter egger when i got it as a peep ) and she has a grumpy sounding cluck, but she is really a sweet girl who loves tomatoes and will shyly walk close by to get a pet. she's not aggressive with the other chickens, but will stand her ground if picked on.

I have one and she is great. Lays nearly every day, likes to follow me around when I am gardening. If I am sitting in a lawn chair she hops up on my knee. And If I am inside too long she looks for me through the picture window.

Of our 4 girls, the BR and the BSL are by far our favorites. The BR is the head girl. Her name is "Dumpling" but DBF calls her "Dump Truck" b/c she eats so darn much. They're super friendly & inquisitive.

Dumpling is the one who leads the charge when the girls are set to invade the house. She's also the girl who I'm afraid might figure out the cat door.

I have 2 BR, a australorp and a GLW and the BR are the friendliest and most social. They come running towards me whenever I come near, my son snuggles them, they are wonderful. If they lay as well as the others, I would say they are the perfect chicken!

I have 2 barred rocks, and they are both sweet and affectionate to me. They think they are parrots - they are always flying up to sit on my shoulder! As the others said, they are very chatty - mine make a cooing sound that goes up in pitch as if they are asking a question and cock their heads when they want treats (which is all the time - barred rocks LOVE to eat!)

As far as with other birds it seems to vary more... My Pearl is quiet and stays out of all the pecking order fights, but my Bea is a little bossy and pecky to the others. But with people they are great.

My barred rock Pox gets pecky if I wear my wedding band. I don't know what it is about it, but darn, she pecks it hard everytime. She's also the pushier one, a sorta in-your-face type of chicken, if that makes sense. The other one, Peeps, well, she just peeps and loves being touched.
