Ok, this one has me stumped. I walked in this afternoon to feed & water, everyone is up and running around, and.... my 10-day old barred rock straight run chicks now have BLACK legs! We're talking Australorp-black legs. They are SUPER dark.

The two slow-feathering ones still have light-colored legs... but is it really possible that I picked 5/7 pullets out of the straight run bin at TSC during the busiest time of the year for pullets??? I am so, so excited if this is the case!!!

So... what's up with that? They're from Tractor Supply as a straight run and supplied by Mt Healthy. Anyone experienced barred rocks legs turning darker at 1-2 weeks?? My older BRs definitely didn't do this when they were chicks. WEIRD.

I've had the leg shading change on me as well. Bought some chicks with dark legs, and one lightened up and became dinner(a roo). :) Also the first two I bought had equal shading and one darkened and was a pullet, and the other stayed the same and was a roo. HTH!
