In Barred Plymouth Rocks, both sexes have a spot on the back of the head. In Black Sex-Links, only males have a spot on the back of the head.

Some have a way of sexing birds by the spot size in Barred Plymouth Rock chicks, but I do not sex by that method, hopefully someone else will be able to help you with that.
