I can't say I know if this is normal but I do know that if an egg is "speckled" and that is not normal for the breed that can mean that the chicken has worms or parasites. to get rid of the unwanted guests, and return your eggs to there breed standardized luster, feed them some diatomaceous earth mixed in with their food.

My Margaret who is a BR has had speckles like this on her eggs and I just wash them off and enjoy the delicious taste. I don't think it effects the yolk.

We just started getting some small med. brown speckled eggs and I think they are from our almost one year old BRs. Seems old for them to just start to lay but they are the only ones we can't match eggs to until now. Has anyone else had late blooming BRs that lay these brown speckled eggs?
