barred rock gender ?

One wyandotte I'm worried because tail feathers are MUCH shorter than the other- S(he) has started to almost sing to the others ( i've only heard it come from the one) and always runs out first and scans when I let them out of the area with warming plate and shavings
I have had Wyandottes with short tail feathers in the past that ended up being pullets so let me say it is not an accurate sexing method. As for the Barred Rock you should be able to tell once s(he) feathers out. If it is very light it’s a boy if it is darker it’s a girl. If you look up barred rock gender threads on here you’ll be able to see the difference

For the barred rock, I'd resist the temptation to go by the size of the yellow dot on head etc. I've heard on various threads that there are some poorly marked barred rocks. So, you might not be able to rely on darker being female/light being male. I for one have a probable barred rock singing the egg song, but she has the perfect light barred pattern of a cockerel!

It's tricky, I'm just going to have to wait and enjoy their cuteness. I was worried we would be down to two pullets out of the five and that this winter in Maine would be hard for just two. Someone replied that the ISA's are pullets leading me to believe I have at least 3 pullets from the bunch, 🤞 for at least one more girl. Thanks so very much for commenting it helps a beginner like myself. The "egg song"- I'm hoping to hear that :love

Hello. We are newbie chick owners and decided to try 5 chicks from TS (all purchased sexed females). We had one pass and picked up this little barred rock in her place. I also am thinking 2 more of the 5 are cockerels (Isa brown and a wyandotte). Any guesses on this barred rock purchased 1 1/2 weeks ago? Thanks so very much for any help, I'm not sure what to do if we are left with only 2 chicks if 3 are roosters.
youre gonna have to ask it for its pronouns. :idunno
