Our barred AnnaBelle is three and isn’t eating. She’s resting a lot and isn’t very active. She won’t roost. Also there is yellow dried liquid near her vent. She’s been like this for a week now.
I’ve been googling to find out what is wrong with her, but I haven’t found anything yet. Has anyone here experienced this with one of their layers. If possible we’d like to treat whatever is wrong ourselves if it can be treated.

Sorry about your hen. How long ago did she last lay an egg? How does her crop feel—empty, full and hard, or soft and puffy? Can you check her skin under her belly and elsewhere for mites or lice? Have you tried to insert a clean finger into her vent to feel for a stuck egg? At her age, she could have one of several reproductive disorders, such as cancer, salpingitis, egg yolk peritonitis or ascites (water belly.) Is a vet possible? I would mix some wet chicken feed into a watery mash, and add a bit of cooked egg or yogurt to offer her in a small bowl. Electrolytes or Poultry NutriDrench would be good to give her.

Thank you for your help. Anna Belle died last night. Even though she died I’m so glad you answered. I was afraid no one would. It gave me great hope that I might be able to do something. I’ll remember that information in case we have it happen to one of our other chickens in the future. I’ve read some other posts and your replies. You do a really good job trying to help people. Thanks again!
