Barred Rock Laid GREEN Eggs?!?!

Thejperez, thank you so much! :)

You're welcome! That's why I'm here, to share any info I have with other wonderful chicken people and get the same in return.

I'd say the baby daddy is one of the Wyandotte roosters. I believe those two are the only breeds of yours that have rose combs.

Still don't know about the green egg. Was it a dark green or more tinted? Pictures would be good if you have them.

It’s possible that the chick you recieved was a Whiting True Green.

The chick or the hen? The chick came from an egg from the hen that layed green eggs.. That's what I got out of it at least.
And if your talking about the hen, a barred rock would look nothing like a Whiting True Green, the hens are a reddish to chesnut color right?

I was referring to the hen.
Are you positive that the Barred Plymouth Rock was the one laying the green eggs. Did you have an Easter Egger in the flock at the same time you had the Barred Plymouth Rock?
I believe Whiting True Greens can come in an array of colors.

I am by no means an expert on Whiting True Greens, so I took a look on Murray McMurray Hatchery website for them.

It seams like they have a reddish colored hen. It may have been a mix up with the eggs. but if it's not a mix up it's still be pretty weird!

Here is a pic of the green eggs our Barred Rock hen from MM. We hatched out her check and I think the daddy is the blue laced red wine dot in my avatar. That’s Alvin. I believe he’s the dad. My daughters think the dad is a silver laced Wyandotte because the check is now starting to get black tips and its wing feathers. But Silverlace Wyandotte chicks are black like barred rocks. At least that’s been our experience.

Here are her light green eggs in the middle.

Thejperez, I watched her lay the egg! :) That’s how I found out it was one of our Barred Rocks. I was flabbergasted. I was flabbergasted. The fox took a Barred Rock rooster and a hen. Since then, we have not gotten any more green eggs.

And, I can’t imagine she was an Easter Egger because she was the picture perfect Barred Plymouth Rock hen. Just gorgeous. Nothing different or mixed breed looking about her at all.

Egg color comes down the genetics of the hen.
From:
https://www.canr.msu.edu/news/why_are_chicken_eggs_different_colors

"All eggs start out white in color; those that are laid in shades other than white have pigments deposited on them as the eggs travel through the hen’s oviduct."

Hatchery chicks can be a little wonky. My first 'Ameraucana', EE, was a hatchery chick that was gifted to me by a family member and she layed and cream colored egg. I still don't know why she would lay green eggs!
