Barred Rock or Domonique?

How can you tell the difference between Barred Rock or a Domonique? Also are Plymouth Rock and Barred Rock the same?

Which do you think my Thelma is?

The biggest difference is that Barred Rocks have single combs and Dominiques have rose combs. So if your girl has a single comb she is a Barred Rock, if she has a rose comb she is a dominique.

Barred rocks are a color variant of Plymouth Rock, so yes, they are the same.

A barred rock will have a single comb while a Dominique will have a rose comb. A barred rock is a barred Plymouth rock.

Thank you, that is what I thought she was but somebody mentioned Dominiques and I had never heard of them before. I never knew how many breeds there actually are until I found this site. It is quite mind boggling but very interesting.

Like everybody else said, the difference is in the combs. You have a barred rock girl! She's a cutie!

Absolutely true, but a lot of old-timers and folks in the South seem to call any barred bird a "dominikker" or some such variation. So, lots of folks call barred Rocks Dominiques by mistake or ignorance.

Domonikker (almost sounds racist) is so much easier to say than rock.
