About that age they start getting red combs and wattles because they're maturing. If they're 5 months old then they are most likely pullets. They would be full blown roosters by this age with crowing and huge combs & wattles.

Simz, what do u mean wattles? The others same age had huge red combs last month while the ones in pic where still like this, combs haven't got any bigger, the two deff. roos went in frying pan, wondering if I should do the same with these?

I think those are pullets. Here is a picture of my barred rock hen.

Let me ask what it is that makes you think they're roosters? If it's because their combs and wattles are turning red, that's just a normal maturing process for hens when they're maturing and reaching laying age.

Because of there tails and pointy feathers, this is my first time owning pullets , I've always bought grown birds, but after many old birds not laying I've bought pullets and chicks for next years flock, so I know there ages better

I don't see long saddle or hackle feathers, but if you do then that would be a dead giveaway. Hopefully, someone else can chime in here and help you out!

if they haven't started crowing by now, you most likely have pullets. the roo i ended up with last year was load and annoying by 3 months old (he was a BR too).

The roos that went in frying Pan had strated to crow, these don't but tail feathers look like roosters! I hope there pullets...

Personally to me they do not look like roos. The tails are maybe a bit more full but then I have had pullets that have had even fuller tails. From the heads they look to be pullets but I dont claim to be an expert by any stretch of the imagination.

My barred rock rooster had a bright red comb and waddles by 6 weeks - he is 8 weeks not and they are HUGE - he also tries to crow. I have a BR pullet as well and the difference between the two at this age is drastic.

My BR rooster was very very slow to feather. In fact at 8 weeks he just finished feathering out - the pullet feathered really quick.

If the red comb and wattles just started showing then I would say pullet. Also, the one on the left in the first pic looks more "spotted" then "barred" the pullets get that barred look later, my roosters feathers came in with a very distinct barred pattern.
