If the chick were a barred rock, that much white would be a sign of a male. But I don't think that chick is a Barred Rock. I see greenish legs and his face looks brownish. The barring is also really messy. Where did you get the chicks? Are you sure he's not mixed? And can you get a new picture, from the side, in natural light?

It's odd for sure. Doesn't seem totally pure. Legs look like BR male in color. Wings seem like possible br pullet but early to tell. Chest coloring looks like BR male but pattern looks more like Dominique. Head spot is hard to gauge on this one too and it has a slight brown tinge to its face but if I had to make an overall guess I'd say cockerel barnyard barred rock. Might need more time though.

Then again there's no sign of any real comb development so now I'm leaning back towards pullet. Whatever it is it doesn't seem to be bred quite to standard.

At that age, my BR cockerels comb was a bit more red and more distinct than yours is currently. But as others said, could be too early to tell. Give it a few weeks

I've seen this before but don't remember who it was. The breast ends up kinda messy laced looking and the barring isn't ever real barring. I think it came from Privett? Questionable breeding but not a rooster sign. Check out those green legs, too.

It won't matter if you're just after eggs.

Thanks everyone! That is all im after is eggs....not going to get very far if i have abunch of roos LOL
