has any one hatched eggs with a barred rock rooster with blackstar hen? what did offspring look like?

Sure. The results are very much a BR offspring. The barring may be a bit smudged, and sometimes the head/neck barring is a bit white, but very much BR looking, The Black Sex Link is 1/2 BR to start with, so this is breeding back, in a way. We've done this many, many times. We like the outcome. The "normal" pullets are dark/cockerels are light "rule" won't be quite as accurate either, so don't jump the gun on sexing at too soon an age. At 6 weeks, the cockerels will sprout wattles and combs and give themselves away. Just be sure your rooster is truly Barred Rock and not a BSL rooster.

I've done a few, with the same results. The rooster gives all his babies a barred gene, so they'll all have one copy. Like Fred said, the boys and girls will both be darker like a pure barred pullet, the males won't be lighter cause they wont' have two copies of the barring. And they're all built like rocks and lay like rocks.

Hi! Just joined this conversation...a bit late, I know!

What would happen if you mixed a BSL Rooster with a BSL hen?? What would be the result?

Thanks!
