Barred Rock Rooster

I have a Barred Rock that is about 14 weeks old. His comb started to get red very early. He was only about 3 weeks old. but he is not light colored like most I have seen. he is very dark but no black at all on his legs. He hasn't crowed yet but I work during the day so maybe I missed it???

Can they be dark and still be a rooster? He is mostly black and he is suppose to be purebred.

You do on rare occasion have very dark BR males. I know because one of my own hens produced one that kept me and his owner guessing forever. If you post a picture, we can tell you.

I don't have a picture. he looks just like this one

maybe slightly darker. But his legs aren't that pale.

Can't really say without seeing a picture. There are dark cockerels and light pullets and everything in between. Most BR pullets don't get combs that large till after about 16 weeks old.

well that sucks he was suppose to be purebred barred rock. Oh well he is still cute. I will post a pic as soon and I can though.
