The eight "barred rock" chicks I bought in March at a Wilco store don't seem like good examples of the breed. One of them is closer to a silver color, a couple others are very light and the rest have a lot more black.

Yes. If I remember right, Hoover's was the main offender. The eight "barred rock" chicks I bought in March at a Wilco store don't seem like good examples of the breed. One of them is closer to a silver color, a couple others are very light and the rest have a lot more black.

They look like kosher kings/gray rangersHi! I have two chickens that were sold to me as barred rock. One is completely black and white and the other has brown feathers on her neck. Is this normal?
Saw this the other day. It is cackle hatchery. Kind of a cool looking bird actually.Look like hybrid Rainbow Layers- barred with splashes of brown, copper, red... I forget which hatchery is hyping them- but between the Rainbow Layers and Rainbow Rangers there's a lot of multi colored, or barred chickens out there right now!
