Hi, gurus of chickendom!
I'm enjoying my first ever chicks. I have learned that at least two of my "Auracana pullets" are actually EE cockerells (and that those are all EE's)!

Anyway, my question today is about a sweet little barred rock named Amy. All the chicks are the same age and hatched about April 30 give or take a day. Amy looks nothing like the other Barred Rocks. Is she really a BR?
Will her coloring change to a more typical coloring? Or is she just different?

Here are some pictures of 6 week old Amy:

Thanks in advance for the input.

BR Pullet, no question in my mind. Sometimes, you'll get a mixed breed barred cockerel who will be dark like that, but the comb is usually much larger by that age in a male.

How does she not look like the others? What do they look like?

Ditto here too. :thumbsup

the bars look like a barred rock to me, the tufts under her beak though make me wonder if she is a mix, I dont remember my Barreds having that. But her feathers look like a BR to me.

If all your others are light colored like that little roo, they're also roos. Your little Amy is a barred rock pullet. Hatchery birds can have less than perfect barring, maybe that's what you're seeing? Or the difference between male and female.
