Barred Rocks have green?

Hi,
it has to do with the Sun's light reflection on the feathers. there are several good articles on it here at byc. you can also look on the internet .Type in : purple green sheen feathers : and that should take you to some nice studies.

I have a Black Star, Victoria, who has green feathers. I don't think my Barred Rock has any green. Your hen must be very soft if she has green feathers. She may loose the green feathers when the feathers get old or dirty. Roosters usually have green tail feathers. I think green feathers on a chicken makes them look prettier. :)
Oh my gosh, my barred rocks ARE my softest!! They don't have a lot of green and their combs don't match to a rooster so I know it's not a rooster. But they are so pretty and I really don't want them to go away now!

Interesting, I will have to look into that! Thank you.

My rock's feathers weren't green all over (the black), more like some were. But no they never disappeared for me.
